Niranjan Rao, MD, FACS, is a board certified vascular and general surgeon with Saint Peter’s Physician Associates and the chief medical officer at Saint Peter’s Healthcare System. Dr. Rao offers treatment in vascular, endovascular, and general surgery. His specific interests include clinical management of carotid artery disease, abdominal aortic aneurysms, and peripheral vascular disease. In addition, his expertise is also in the treatment of varicose veins and dialysis access.

He is a graduate of M.R. Medical College in India and completed his residency in general surgery at the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia, PA, followed by a fellowship in vascular surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH.

Dr. Rao is a clinical assistant professor of Surgery at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He chairs the New Jersey Delegation to the American Medical Association and is a member of the Accreditation Review Committee of the National Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Medical Society of New Jersey. He is a member of the Peripheral Vascular Society, Eastern Vascular Society, New Jersey Vascular Society, American Medical Association, and the Middlesex County Medical Society.

Dr. Rao served as the 219th president of the Medical Society of New Jersey from 2011 to 2012. He served on the Saint Peter’s Medical Staff Executive Committee from 2006 to 2016 and was the president from 2013 to 2014. In addition, Dr. Rao was a member of the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners from 2014 to 2017. He was a council member of the American Medical Association’s Council on Medical Education from 2014 to 2022, including serving as the chair from 2021 to 2022.
